YOUTH- Seashore Striders

Hosted by: Sandhill Fields         Produced by: The Seashore Striders

(home of the 2021 Sussex County Championships)

Friday, October 21, 2022

The Sandhill Cross Country Course became a reality in 2020 and we are proud of what we have to offer Sussex County and the State of Delaware.  We have hosted several dual meets on the course as well as the 2020 Sussex County Championships (Oct. 2020) and most recently over 200 runners at a dual meet Henlopen Classic (Sept. 2021).  The opening mile is very spectator friendly with the mile mark just about even to the start.  The second mile heads back to the woods and the beautiful 13 raised fast boardwalk.  Just before the third mile the course takes in a small incline and the final mile is flat & fast.  The final 400m is out in the open and spectator friendly with a smooth rounded turn around the pavilion and into the finish chute.  We are proud of the course and invite you to take part in our invitational and experience the Sandhill 5000-meter experience.

Yours in Running & Racing,

Coach Tim Bamforth; Seashore Striders/Cape Henlopen Girls Track & Field

    • 5000m Course Review...Off the starting line we go straight to the woods and pick up the cinder trail that goes behind a work shed.   We do a small loop in the woods and come right back out to loop all the fields going down the north property line.   Coming around the front field and going past the starting line we pass the 1 mile mark.   Now the course heads straight back to the woods this time heading in on the boardwalk.   The course runs through the woods and comes out in the far back where we run the big loop passing the 2 mile mark.   From the big loop we run along the woods heading back to the fields.   Just before the work shed we dip back into the woods (the same thing we did at the beginning) and take in the small loop in the woods.   Coming out of the woods and off the boardwalk it is a straight shot back towards the start with the finish bending around to the right even with the small pavilion.
