18th Mariner's Bethel 7m / 5k Trail Run & 1m/3m walk

Ocean View, DE

Sunday, October 20, 2019 - 1:00pm

An early morning conference call...I was just told by race organizers that today's Trail Run at Camp Barnes is still on with some changes due to the weather. Camp Barnes and Asawoman are low area's to begin with and with rain expected all day and wind getting worse as the day goes on...The changes are as follows...

- 1 mile walk will remain the same
- 3 mile walk will remain the same
(if the 3 mile walkers want to change to the 1 mile, no problem, as those two events are not timed)
- Kiddie K will remain the same, however the course may change and it may become shorter.
- 5k event is still on, however the course will be changed and will not come back through the woods. The course will be an out & back turning around just past the tower at the 1.55m mark with the same start & finish line.
- The 7 miler is cancelled as most of your course is under water and not safe. You will all be dropped into the 5k division.

(Please keep in mind that we will further evaluate as the morning goes on and things could change, but as of right now (7:25 am) the main change is the cancelation of the 7 miler and all other events are a go)

As many of you know, this event has some of the best post-race food in the east...There is enough food for over 300 people, there is plenty of seating inside and in a enclosed tent...participants are encouraged to come and run or not run, walk or not walk, but enjoy a nice lunch, pick-up a great shirt, and enjoy each others company. There will also be takeout as well if you want to pickup your shirt and take a lunch to go.
If you choose not to come, you can pickup your shirt at a later time, which will be posted on this page after the event.

There are no refunds and no defer to 2020 before people start asking. Expenses have already been spent and we need to make the best of the day that we have been dealt.

We thank you for being understandable and realizing that safety always comes first. Not only are these decisions being made with participant and courses being thought out, but safety workers have to be able to have access to participants and when trails are not accessible it becomes a safer issue.

On behalf of the Seashore Striders and the Trail Run Committee- see you in the soup line!
