This year’s Race for the Ribbon 5K fundraising event will be held on Saturday, July 20^th, starting and finishing on the corner of Wilmington Avenue and the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach. Like last year, The Greene Turtle will be hosting our post-race party, including a breakfast buffet, music, and prizes. The race is part of the “Summer Racing Series” for the Seashore Striders.

The Greene Turtle of Rehoboth is hosting our post race party, including a pancake and sausage breakfast for all who are registered.

DESCRIPTION:

5 Kilometer Run (3.1 Mile Run)

T.A.C. Certified Course

This event will include a Clydesdale/Filly Division

This event will include a 5k walk

Registration: TECH T-Shirts until supplies last

Race day registration will be from 6:30 am – 7:25 am

BENEFIT EVENT:

The 6th annual Race for the Ribbon is right around the corner. Because of the generosity of our friends, family, community members, and businesses, our event has raised over $50,000 for the American Cancer Society since our start in 2008. This race began as a tribute to Stephanie Shuttleworth’s mom, Nancy L. Hendershot, who endured a long, hard battle with breast cancer. Now, our family is motivated to help another as they go through their own difficult time. In addition to making a sizable donation to ACS, it is our hope that each year this event raises both awareness and funds that will ease the burden for a local family.

In 2010, six year-old Greysen Hitchens of Georgetown was diagnosed with a form of epilepsy and was referred to AI DuPont Children's Hospital where doctors discovered a mass deep in the cerebellum. Greysen's neurosurgeon informed the family that he suffered from a form of brain cancer called Astrocytoma. Not only was this tumor growing, but it was also invading the surrounding healthy brain tissue and nerves, rendering it inoperable. Despite the unfavorable prognosis, Greysen and his family remain positive. Greysen’s parents have a wonderful outlook on what most would see as a bleak situation. In a Facebook post, Greysen’s mom stated, “We have learned to live in the moment, cherish today, and let tomorrow worry for itself.”

Please arrive early as Rehoboth traffic is heavy on summer weekend's mornings. Free parking race morning until 10:00 am. Meters take effect starting at 10:00.
